Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions.

Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Current Emissions Reporting

At the beginning of 2022 we moved to new premises which are far more energy efficient. (Commercial EPC rating B). This is due in part to a timber frame structure/envelope with triple glazed windows, very good airtightness and plenty of insulation. Under normal circumstances this situation would create a very stuffy internal environment, so there is also a full mechanical ventilation heat recovery system (MVHR) on both floors, whereby stale air in constantly extracted, and fresh air brought-in, via appropriately positioned ceiling air valves in the principal rooms. Rather than just extracting air and replacing it with the air from outside, the heat recovery system draws the heat from the extracted air and passes it to the air which is being filtered in from outside. The extract and supply air do not flow within the same pipes, so there is no risk of cross contamination of the different air flows. With a heat recovery system, you make use of what already exists as well as reducing our collective impact on the environment, and that includes the amount of heat we lose to the environment daily. Heat recovery systems work by utilising in a positive way the valuable warm air or water in a property.

Electrical energy is created via an external air source heat pump. The pump transfers heat from the outside air to water, which heats the rooms via underfloor heating. It is also used to heat water stored in a hot water cylinder for the hot taps. Heat from the air is absorbed into a fluid. This fluid then passes through a heat exchanger into the heat pump, which raises the temperature and then transfers that heat to water.

The building has no requirement at all for gas.

This office is closer to where the staff live so the commuting distance has been reduced.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We project that our carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 0 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 100% by adopting a fully hybrid working pattern and promoting a walk/cycle to work scheme with all of our staff thereby reducing the commuting miles to and from work. We are also planning the following Carbon Reduction projects to offset our emissions by 100%

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

We are planning to be part of large funding project for a Global Portfolio VCS certified carbon reduction programme across the world via a company called Carbon Footprint Ltd that includes carbon avoidance, clean and renewable energy generation. Many are within developing countries, where they also provide additional social benefits

The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 3.6 tCO2e, a 110%ge reduction against the 2021 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard¹

and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting2.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard³.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
